For those looking for vacation ideas, there are many popular tourist destinations to choose from. One that can provide a range of holiday options is Mexico, with the country offering some great beach vacations, city breaks and adventure trips. Cheap Mexican vacations are not overly difficult to find for tourists from the US and other countries, with the following five destinations being some of the options to consider.

Mexico City

As the capital of Mexico, and one of the largest cities in the world, Mexico City is a destination that offers a range of choices for cheap Mexican vacations. Many airlines travel to the city, providing a number of options for those planning to visit to find cheap flights. Being such an enormous city, with a population estimated to be close to 9 million, there are plenty of accommodation options available. This includes a range of budget accommodation, with many hostels, cheap hotels and other affordable lodgings available. There is also plenty of sightseeing in and around the city, which cost very little to do, with some of the top attractions including Zocalo, which is the main plaza in the historic center of the city, the National Palace, The Great Temple of the Aztecs and Teotihuacan, an archeological site located just outside the city. Visiting Mexico City can be an interesting experience, and with the range of options for getting to and staying there, is a location in Mexico to consider for a budget vacation.

Cancun

A location beloved of spring break students, Cancun is a coastal city in the Yucatan Peninsula region of Mexico. It is one of the top beach vacation destinations in the country and its popularity means there are plenty of cheap flights and budget accommodation available for those that are interested in cheap Mexican vacations. There are plenty of public beaches in the area with budget hotels on them, although it is also possible to stay in cheaper hotels in the city which are not too far from the beach, and this can be a more affordable alternative. While beach activities are the main attraction of Cancun, there are also other things to do and see in and around the city. Some of these include activities such as dolphin encounters and ATV tours through the surrounding jungle, and attractions such as the Cancun Underwater Museum.

Acapulco

For a combined city break and beach vacation, one of the best destinations in Mexico is Acapulco. It is a famous name in Mexico and many people choose to visit for this reason. There are plenty of flights to the city, and beach and city center accommodation is plentiful, with options for all budgets. Acapulco is a great destination to spend daytimes relaxing on the beach, with a number of popular options to choose from, including Caleta, Icacos and Condesa. However, the city also has an amazing nightlife, with plenty of restaurants, bars and clubs to enjoy in the evenings. Acapulco is also considered a romantic destination, and can therefore be a good choice for couples looking for a good mix of relaxation and nightlife at an affordable price.

Taxco

If you are looking for a cheap Mexican vacation away from the beach, then Taxco is an option to consider. This little city is in a picturesque location in the state of Guerrero in southern Mexico and provides some beautiful sights for visitors, with these including the city and its buildings, as well as the surrounding countryside. The city lies in an area that was once famous for silver mining, and although mining operations have largely died down there is still plenty of history to see with a few museums showing many of the beautiful silver objects which were made in the town. Tourism is now a big part of the economy of the area, although it is not a particularly busy destination and costs are relatively inexpensive for those that want to take in its attractions.

Ixtapa

Another beach resort to consider for a cheap Mexican vacation is Ixtapa. This started out as a planned tourist destination in the 1970’s, set up by the government, and it has grown into a popular location for visitors to Mexico. Although not a large city, there are a great number of hotel rooms available in the area, and many of these are at the budget end of the market. The city also has its own airport making it easily accessible, with a number of local and international airlines flying to it, such that relatively cheap flights can be found to get there. There are also plenty of side trips that can be made in the area around the city, for those looking for a day away from the beach, and if you are looking for somewhere a little quieter it can be a good choice of destination.
