7 Ways To Save Money With Cheap Weekend Getaways

If you need a quick break from life's daily grind, cheap weekend getaways can offer you the perfect brief respite. Follow these seven suggested methods of saving money when planning one.

Everybody needs a vacation from time to time, so that you can unwind but also get a chance to recharge your batteries. That’s something that can be invaluable no matter who you are, but they can also be a bit expensive.  That’s why knowing how to plan out cheap weekend getaways can be so important.  This way, you can ensure that you’re able to take that well earned break, have some fun, and just get away from your normal life.  There are plenty of ways in which you can plan cheap weekend getaways, and it’s just about knowing these 7 techniques to keeping your costs about as low as possible:

1) Never fly if you can help it.

Driving instead of flying is almost always much, much cheaper.  Flights are really expensive, and will cost you into the hundreds of dollars fro trips that you could drive without breaking $100 on gas in many instances.  What you’re also going to find is that you run into all the hidden fees as well, like for luggage, food, drinks, just about everything.

2) Look to closer locations.

While it may not seem very exotic, or especially romantic if that’s the aim of your cheap weekend getaways, you’ll find that they are much more logical.  Going out of the suburbs and then staying in the city is almost always going to be much cheaper than driving or flying halfway across the country to do about the same activities, only a bit further away.   That’s why staying closer to home can actually just be a good technique if you want to save a buck or two.

3) Try to avoid staying more than one night.

Most typically for cheap weekend getaway packages you’re just going to be looking to stay one night anyways, because most likely you have to work again once the  mini-vacation is over anyways.   By just paying for a Friday or Saturday night instead of two nights, you’ll find that you cut your costs in half, and you still get to enjoy being out there and having some fun, if only for a few days.

4) Try to find free activities on the trip.

If you’re close to major cities you’ll be in luck, because there are tons of free activities that take place all the time that would be perfect for cheap weekend getaways.  Whether it’s something like a local concert, something like conventions or even carnivals in some cases can provide you with free, or at least cheap entertainment that’s still a ton of fun.  Just make sure to look ahead so that you can guarantee there’s going to be fun stuff to do, you don’t want to be surprised with nothing on the agenda once you arrive.

5) Camping is a great way to save money.

Looking for the perfect way to really enjoy yourself, get some relaxation in, and without having to spend really any money at all?  Why not go camping?   Staying outside costs you basically nothing, and that makes it a really ideal way to save a ton of money, while you’re able to really enjoy yourself too. Plus is there really anything better than getting outside and just enjoying our world for a short period of time, instead of rushing past the natural beauty around us?

6) Try entertainment coupon books.

There are always major entertainment books coming out, and you’d be amazed by all the different types of crazy coupons that you can get.  This way you can even plan cheap family weekend getaways that get you into theme parks within the area, or other fun family type activities, at a fraction of the price because of the coupons that you’ll have.

7) Finally, always compare your hotel rates.

When you’re going to be staying in a room, even for just a day, always compare prices before determining where to stay.  Through a site like Expedia.com for example, you can compare rates on hotels all over the United States.  This way, you have an easy window into what you can expect to pay anywhere, so that you can choose the best, yet also the cheapest possible option.  This way you get a comfortable mix between quality, but also something that’s not going to hurt your wallet.
